None of us know everything. We all have areas that we either know we "don't know" or we don't even realize exists. We expand our area of knowledge by learning from personal experience, research, or direct transfers from others. We can expand their knowledge by sharing what we know. |
This circle represents all of the information in the known universe. Everything that is known everywhere by everyone. This (top left) slice of the circle represents that information that you know, and you know that you know it. Some examples are your name, your birthdate, the name of your spouse and your children. This (top right) slice of the circle represents that information that you know that you know nothing about. You know these things are "out there" but you really don't know anything about them. Some examples might be nuclear physics, how to perform brain surgery, or the full value of the constant "Pi". All of the rest of the information that is out there represents that information that you don't know, and you don't even know that you don't know it. You are "unconsciously incompetent" in these areas. It doesn't mean that the information doesn't exist, it just means that you are currently unaware of its existence. As a result, this information is currently sitting in your "blind spot." Your "blind spot" is just like when you're driving in your car and you look in the rear-view mirror and nothing is there. You then look in the side mirror and, still, nothing is there. Then, you turn your head 20% over your left shoulder and what you see is a 4,000 pound car traveling at exactly the same rate of speed that you are! It's not that the car just appeared out of nowhere when you turned your head, but it was there the entire time. You just couldn't see it until you viewed it from a new perspective! There are three ways to expand what you know. The first is the experiences you have by the places you go. The second is the personal education you get by the books you read. The final way is by transferring knowledge by talking to the people you meet in life. This is where I come in. The good news is that some of what I "Know that I know" is currently sitting in your blind spot. So, by sharing what I know, it will help you to expand that which you know. |
